After studying theater with Luis Valdez at UC Santa Cruz and earning her MSW at SUNY Stony Brook, Kathleen launched her research career at USC investigating the risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Colleagues Jean Richardson, DrPH and Lourdes Baezconde-Garbanati, PhD write about their time working with Kathleen.
In 2008, Kathleen founded the food bank in Santa Anita/La Mision as a small seasonal program to assist workers relying on donated rice and beans to help feed their families. Under her leadership and vision, it evolved into the La Mision Children’s Fund currently serving over 450 families, including 1,500 children, in Baja California, Mexico.
